Ethiopia's National Digital Payments Strategy (NDPS) for 2021–2024 aims to create a secure, competitive, efficient, innovative, and responsible payment ecosystem to support a cash-lite and financially inclusive economy. The NDPS is built on four strategic pillars: developing reliable infrastructure, championing digital payment adoption, establishing a strong regulatory framework, and fostering innovation. It also identifies four enablers, including committing to a safe national payment system and prioritizing capacity building. The strategy seeks to align with Ethiopia's broader reform agenda to drive financial inclusion and economic growth. Key actions include digitizing government payments, expanding access points, and promoting interoperability. Success depends on commitment, cooperation, and addressing challenges in infrastructure, adoption, regulation, and innovation.
